About Our Choirs

Kinder Choir

Wednesdays from 4:00-4:50 PM
The Kinder Choir is our youngest choir for Kindergarten and First Grade students, with registration taking place in the spring for the following school year. The program follows the school calendar.   The choir is designed to train young voices with the basic fundamentals of proper singing. A typical rehearsal includes a combination of the following: vocal warm ups, voice building, learning to breathe properly, ear training, and movement. The children will learn a variety of classical and contemporary songs as well as movement to accompany the songs they rehearse. The Kinder Choir performs during the Prep Choir concerts in December and May.

Prep Choir

Wednesdays from 5:00-6:15 PM
The Prep Choir consists of our 2nd and 3rd grade students, with registration taking place in the spring for the following school year. The program follows the school calendar.   The choir is designed to continue training young voices with the basic fundamentals of proper singing, as well as build on voice pedagogy and dance. A typical rehearsal includes a combination of the following: vocal warm ups, breathing exercises, ear training, singing in two parts, and dance. The children learn and sing classical songs from the choral repertoire and movement to accompany contemporary songs. The Prep Choir performs their own concerts in December and May, where the girls are provided costumes and props for many of our shows.

Island Girls Choir

Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30 to 8:00 PM
The Island Girls Choir has been in existence since 1976. Today, the Choir is known as a quality musical group with a broad repertoire and is comprised of 70+ girls in the 4th through 6th grades. We rehearse weekly during the school year. Fulfilling the goal of combining music education and expertise with the fun of a shared experience, the Choir performs a wide spectrum of selections. These range from 16th Century to contemporary music, and encompass classical, sacred, ethnic, and Broadway tunes. Choreography also pays an important part in the two major performances during the year, as many of the numbers are done in a show choir style with colorful costumes and clever props. Registration for the Island Girls Choir take place in the spring for the following school year.

Island Sound

For girls in grades 7th-12th grade, we have three different teams open for enrollment:

DANCE TEAM
Mondays 5:00-6:30 PM

Island Choral Experience is excited to offer a new venue of intense instruction in dance for the 2022-2023 year.  The group will consist of dedicated members who have aptitude as well as commitment for improvement and advancement in the field of dance.  Many styles of dance will be represented in our instruction curriculum including jazz, lyrical, contemporary and hip hop.  Rehearsals will begin with proper warm up as well as a brief instruction of dance terminology. Our instructors have a breadth of expertise in choreography as well as are experienced teachers, mentors and motivators.  Dancers will gain strength and flexibility training all the while learning creative movement in a safe and friendly environment.Members will prepare dance numbers throughout the year to be professionally videotaped in a rented studio space (Date(s)  TBA), which will be uploaded to our website and public YouTube channel. They will have access to these recorded videos to be shared in auditions/applications/social media/and with friends and family.

RECORDING TEAM
Mondays 3:30-5:00 PM
For many years ICE has been recording ensemble and solo works both for our own program as well as for professional record labels and production companies.  We have recorded hundreds of songs for Disk Eyes Productions as well as Evolution Music, both of which have some of the largest music libraries in the world. The experience of recording in a studio is beyond words and for several of our members, it has launched a career into a world that is both satisfying and lucrative. When songs are ready for production we will record during our normal rehearsal time but at Diskeyes Recording Studio in Bellevue. (For more information on Diskeyes please see http://diskeyes.com/jukebox/)  Members will gain professional studio recording experience, as well as prowess in ear training, harmonizing, solo performance with a big bonus of receiving a professionally recorded solo cover track of any song they choose from Diskeyes’ or ICE’s 1,000+ song library. We are targeting July 1st to have the official plan and calendar to share.

LEADS TEAM
Mondays 6:30-8:00 PM and Wednesdays 5:00-8:00 PM (only for current IS members)
This year we developed a Leads program which we are over the moon excited to present to our Island Sound members next year. We have found this venue of performance and instruction to be one of the most rewarding ventures. The 2022-2023 Island Sound Leads Team will consist of performers ranging from 7th-12th grade. They will sometimes be rehearsing with just their fellow leads, while other times practicing alongside the younger singers in our program. Placing them in starring roles designed especially for their vocal range, skill set and talents makes this a win/win for everyone. Commitment to this program also means performing with either or both IGC and Prep Choir at both their winter and spring concerts. This program can count towards  leadership training and job shadowing. In addition, the staff will provide reference letters for members upon request on behalf of their experience in the program. We are targeting July 1st to have the official plan and calendar to share.
